WASTE DISPOSAL
As an area of outstanding natural beauty, Island Harbour Marina takes the matter of caring for the environment very seriously. However, it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that waste of any kind does not damage our land or pollute our Marina or coastal waters. Please help us keep the environment pristine by following the guidelines below.
-
No person shall pump or willfully or carelessly allow to escape into the Marina any dangerous or offensive matter.
This includes washing down decks after spillages of fuel, however small. It also includes the release of boat sewage and/or bilge water into the Marina.
All such incidents, including the spillage of oil or other marine pollutants into the Marina, should be reported immediately to the Island Harbour Site Manager, either via VHF channel 80, telephone to 01983 539994 or verbally to Marina staff at the Control Tower.
-
There are three bin bays located in the car park for the disposal of general waste. This includes recyclable waste, non-recyclable waste and a separate bin bay for the disposal of clear, green and brown glass items.
-
There is a six yard skip in the boatyard for all marine and industrial waste, including wood and metal items.
-
Classified as International Catering Waste, this must not be deposited in the general waste bins. Please contact the Control Tower to make separate arrangements. At least 24 hours notice must be given to Island Harbour Marina. A charge will be made for this service.
-
Please contact Richardsons Yacht Services LTD, located at the rear of the boatyard for the disposal of any waste oil. There is a charge per litre for this service. They can be telephoned on 01983 821095.
-
These can no longer be disposed of at the Police Station. Please contact your nearest Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) for further details on 023 9255 2100.
-
Please contact Richardsons Yacht Services LTD, located at the rear of the boatyard for the disposal of used batteries. They can be telephoned on 01983 821095.
-
There is a deposit station next to the bin bay in the centre of the car park, operated by the Salvation Army.
-
There are no pump out facilities at Island Harbour Marina. However, there are free-to-use facilities on the Isle of Wight at both Shepards Marina and Yarmouth Harbour.
-
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times when on the Marina site. A dedicated dog waste bin is positioned opposite the shower block and must be used. This is emptied weekly by the local authority.
-
The Island Harbour Port Waste Management Plan is reviewed every three years and covers all types of prescribed waste originating from vessels visiting or resident in the Marina.
The aim of this plan is to provide guidance to any Marina user as to the processes and facilities available concerning the management of waste generated by vessels and leisure craft. To this end, it attempts to ensure that all vessels using the Marina dispose of all waste in an efficient and environmentally correct manner.
You can find our Waste Management Plan here.
Island Harbour Marina encourages all vessels to segregate and re-cycle its waste.
Should any users have any comments or complaints about the waste collection facilities provided at Island Harbour for vessels, please either contact the Control Tower
or e-mail the Site Manager.
